Dust Bandits showed up demanding 2000 cats every 2 days, I said sure. Hungry Bandits attack/pass by daily (Luckily they are able to be dealt with by mounted crossbows.) Holy Nation comes to see me every couple of days for a tussle (I may have missed prayer day hah) Band of Bones comes to see me every couple of days for a tussle. Only recently picked up this game and set up my first base on a hill to the North of The Hub / East of Stack. Well this may explain why my first playthrough has been so darned difficulty (Constantly reloading savepoints since I get swarmed) My personal favorite is Gut since taxmen and raids rarely even survive long enough to get to my gates, but let's just say I gathered 3,000 meat from beak-things before my walls were completed. There are dozens of other wonderful base locations that are very raid-safe but extremely difficult to either get to or set up in for new players. The major factions don't come calling here. The only dangerous raid comes from across the water so build near the coast so you can shoot them while swimming, otherwise just let them die from acid. The local crabs aren't terrible and a great food source, while raids are generally light and easy, plus they take massive acid damage. A bit isolated, but the acid rain is ideal for Skeleton and Hiver players, or those with clothing appropriate for humans and Shek to survive. You'll be subjected to humiliating Prayer Days from the very racist Holy Nation, so make sure you have a male Greenlander with a copy of The Holy Flame to go out and talk to them.

You'll be paying taxes to United Cities and the Trading Guild, and the only formidable raid is from the Slavers, which (if things go bad) will only take your fellas just over the hillside to be easily broken out. The Eastern coast of the Great Desert, Heng, has a couple great spots with Green/Arid, copper and iron all conveniently placed just east of the city of Heft. Border Zone is extremely raid-happy, there's like 6 different factions after you depending on your exact location. Just because you often start in the Border Zone doesn't mean it's a beginner-friendly spot for a base.
